What are SA (Sonderausstattung) codes?

SA stands for Sonderausstattung — German for 'special equipment.' Each three-character code describes one factory option installed when the car was built. SA codes are immutable: a car's build sheet from the factory always lists the same SAs, even after dealer installs or aftermarket changes. bmv.vin shows the full SA list on every per-VIN landing.
